The comedy group Working Dog have been bringing laughter into Australian homes for well over ten years, with TV shows such as Frontline, The Panel and Thank God You’re Here and films like The Castle and The Dish. The group’s core members, including Rob Sitch, Santo Cilauro and Tom Gleisner, were also part of previous comedy ensemble programs, the D-Generation and The Late Show, and it is from these people that I learnt everything thing I know about comedy from (except for what I learnt from the Goodies, Fawlty Towers and The Marx Brothers).
Tonight saw the premiere of their new show, political satire The Hollowmen. It was laugh out loud funny and was reminiscent of both that great British political comedy Yes, Minister, and also the more sober American The West Wing. Santo Cilauro plays a market researcher, Merrick Watts (yes, the Merrick and Rosso guy) is a governement policy advisor and Rob Sitch, as usual, is the glue that holds the whole thing together.
